BIO

Alexandra TARNICERU was born in Romania,  where she studied piano and singing with Mihaela Spiridon, Ionel Ceobanu and Elena Botez, specialising in Bucharest with Claudia Codreanu. She continued her training in Switzerland, at the Zurich Opera Studio (2013-2015). She perfected her vocal technique in Italy with Mildela D'Amico. She is currently working on vocal repertoire under the supervision of the pianist Javier San Miguel.

Alexandra has participated in national and international competitions, winning important prizes and a scholarship to Salzburg (2013). Some of these are: First prize in the ‘Mihail Jora’ Singing Competition in Bucharest (Romania), First prize in the ‘Ionel Perlea’ International Lied Competition in Slobozia (Romania), First prize in the ‘Compostela Lírica’ Singing Competition in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), second prize in the ‘Le Grand Prix de l'Opéra’ International Competition in Bucharest (Romania), and second prize in the ‘Anneliese Rothenberger’ Competition on Mainau Island (Germany).

In the field of opera, her roles include: Magd in ‘Jenufa’, Giulietta in ‘Les contes d'Hoffmann’, Echo in ‘Ariadne auf Naxos’, the first lady in ‘The Magic Flute’, Mascha in ‘The Queen of Spades’, Marguerite in ‘Faust’, Mimi in ‘La Bohème’, Micaela in ‘Carmen’, Fiordiligi in ‘Così fan tutte’, the Countess in ‘The Marriage of Fígaro’, as well as Liu in Puccini's “Turandot”.

Alexandra enjoys both lieder and symphonic repertoire. As a soprano soloist she has taken part in major productions and concerts with the most significant repertoire, from the requiems of Jommelli, Mozart, Verdi and Brahms, to Bruckner's Mass in F minor, and Bach's Magnificat. She is currently expanding her repertoire towards the Baroque, delving into works by Vivaldi, Handel and Galuppi and training in historical singing and Baroque opera.

Throughout her career, Alexandra has collaborated with world-class conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Patrick Lange, Jiři Bělohlávek, Alexander Joel, Lothar Koenigs, Christoph Eschenbach, Peter Tilling and Ulises Illán. She has also collaborated with stage directors such as Willie Decker, Robert Carsen, Christoph Loy, Andreas Homoki and Tatjana Gürbaca. She has also shared the stage with artists of the stature of Hanna Schwartz, Waltraud Meier and Nina Stemme.

Alexandra has received advice from pedagogues such as Reinaldo Macías, Ann Muray and Brigitte Fasbender.

She currently lives in Madrid, where she continues to develop her musical career.
